Obama's Foreign Policy

As our podcast listeners know, Craig Edwards and myself have been emphasizing Obama's feckless foreign policy for months as a danger to America.

You only have to go back a little over 30 years in American history to the election of Jimmy Carter to see what a weak and vaccilating foreign policy results in: disrespect for this country and emboldened dictators around the world.

As we know, the Carter administration was just as ineffective on fiscal policy as it was on foreign policy and so the electorate cashiered Carter and Ronald Reagan swept into office with a mandate to rebuild the economy and the military.

The result of that election was interest rates plummeting from 20% to 8%, an eighteen year bull market, the collapse of the U.S.S.R. and the Berlin Wall, millions of Europeans regaining their freedom and a new found respect and in some cases, a healthy fear of America by those who would do us harm.

Unless Obama has a weaker grasp of history than I think he does, surely he can see the parralels between his and Carter's administration.

One thing is clear. The GOP smells the chum in the water on Obama's foreign policy failures and they are getting the distinct impression that this is an issue, among several others, that they can ride to Congress in 2010 and to the White House in 2012.
