Capital Phone Lines Are Jammed: Voters Hammer Congress!

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Neil Cavuto is dialing the Capitol main number live on his show.  He can’t get through.  All of you who are making calls, keep dialing.  This vote is obviously going down to the wire.

The Dems have got to be shaking in their boots over this.  Wait until these jokers come back to their districts for the Easter break. I bet last August’s Town Halls look like a neighbor hood ice cream social by comparison!

Obama’s Inconvenient Cap & Trade

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Here at Solid Principles, we acknowledge we are not experts in ‘Climate Change’, nor have we watched Al Gore’s ‘An Inconvenient Truth’.  While not wanting to enter the quagmire of ‘Climate Gate’ or Global Warming Deniers, we thought it was noting what our current President recent said about the subject.  During his campaigning Town Hall for Harry Reid in Nevada, Obama played the Al Gore card.

First of all, we just got five feet of snow in Washington and so everybody is like – a lot of the people who are opponents of climate change, they say, see, look at that, there’s all this snow on the ground, this doesn’t mean anything. I want to just be clear that the science of climate change doesn’t mean that every place is getting warmer; it means the planet as a whole is getting warmer. But what it may mean is, for example, Vancouver, which is supposed to be getting snow during the Olympics, suddenly is at 55 degrees, and Dallas suddenly is getting seven inches of snow.

The idea is, is that as the planet as a whole gets warmer, you start seeing changing weather patterns, and that creates more violent storm systems, more unpredictable weather. So any single place might end up being warmer; another place might end up being a little bit cooler; there might end up being more precipitation in the air, more monsoons, more hurricanes, more tornadoes, more drought in some places, floods in other places.

So I just – that’s one aspect of the science that I think everybody should understand. That’s point number one.

Point number two: The best way for us to unleash the free market – the best way for us to unleash the free market and capitalism and innovation and dynamism in the energy sector is for us to fully take into account all the costs that go into producing energy and using energy.

Mike Huckabee Wins Values Voter Summit Straw Poll

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

In what is known as a “beauty contest,” Mike Huckabee has won the Family Research Council’s “Values Voters Summit” poll. The vote can also be called a “straw poll” in that it has no binding effect, but is a preference poll that measures a candidate’s appeal to a very narrowly defined segment of the electorate.

Mike Huckabee continues his strong appeal to that portion of the voting public that places “family values” first in order of importance when it comes to issues that they fell very passionate about.

Having recognized that Gov. Huckabee is strong in the “Evangelical” wing of the Republican Party, I still have reservations about his ability to break out of that mold and broaden his appeal to the rest of the various interest groups that collectively form a voting bloc big enough to sweep Democrats out of office in 2010 in sufficient numbers to slow down the headlong plunge we have taken into a government controlled economy.

We saw what happens to a party in 2008 when it nominates a candidate who fails to excite the party’s “base” and is so unfocused and undefined in his message, that he manages to turn off moderate Democrats and the Independents as well. What happens? Defeat.

Obama happens, cap and trade bills happen, massive borrowing and spending happens, Van Jones happens……..and, thankfully, Town Hall push back happens.

We all have our favorite candidate and it is not my purpose here to beat the drums for a particular nominee, but rather to suggest that the best interests of the conservative movement lie in promoting a candidate whose message appeals to as wide a swath of the country as is consistent with remaining faithful to a core set of principles.

Remember the dictum in politics that if you craft your message too narrowly and win 100% of a group in the electorate that comprises 25% of likely voters, you lose the election 75%-25%!

Washington, D.C. - Mike Huckabee has convincingly won Family Research Council’s second-ever Values Voter Summit Straw Poll. Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty, Sarah Palin, and Mike Pence finished roughly tied for second place.

Only registered participants of the Summit who were present at the event were allowed to vote.

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins released the following statement in reaction to the second ever Values Voter Summit Straw Poll:

“We were surprised that the event’s turnout was more than double our expectations, clearly showing intensity among social conservatives. This was the first time potential conservative candidates could present their vision for change. We have over 1,800 registrants and over 175,000 unique online viewers.”

The following are the straw poll results:

Candidate Name Total Votes Percentage

1. Mike Huckabee 170 28.48%

Chalk One Up for the Grassroots

This brief excerpt from an AP article illustrates exactly why we do not have a passed health care nationalization bill sitting on the President’s desk waiting for his signature.

The citizens of this great country rose up in Town Halls from coast to coast and flat out stuffed this toxic legislation.

I do not trust this dysfunctional crew in Washington, so let’s stay focused on any stealth attempt to slip something by us in the middle of the night. We know that is a favorite tactic of the Dems. The bills they propose are so hated by the voters, that they don’t dare debate the more harmful provisions of their unpopular legislation during the daylight hours. Like Dracula, they only come out at night.

Enzi, together with Republican Sens. Charles Grassley of Iowa and Olympia Snowe of Maine, has held talks with Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont. But the chance of a bipartisan breakthrough has diminished in the face of an effective public mobilization by opponents of Democratic proposals.

“I heard a lot of frustration and anger as I traveled across my home state this last few weeks,” said Enzi, who has been targeted by critics for seeking to negotiate on legislation. “People in Wyoming and across the country are anxious about what Washington has in mind. This is big. This is personal. This is one of the most important debates of our lifetime.”

Inhofe Slams Health Reform

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Sen. Jim Inhofe has the right attitude. When you know a bill’s intent is to nationalize 17% of the gross domestic product and to create another multi-trillion dollar budget buster, you don’t need to wade through 1,000 plus pages of minutiae to know that you are going to vote “NO.”

If you haven’t already done so, please email, phone and write your Congressional delegation and let them know that you oppose this toxic bill, in whatever form is finally agreed upon. The Dems are interested in one thing only….The acquisition of enormous new powers over the citizens of this country. Don’t be tempted to let the Dems up off the mat. We can’t breathe a sigh of relief until we win control of at least one house of Congress and that is only a good start.

At a town hall meeting Wednesday Sen. Jim Inhofe told Chickasha residents he does not need to read the 1,000 page health care reform bill, he will simply vote against it.

“I don’t have to read it, or know what’s in it. I’m going to oppose it anyways,” he said.

Inhofe said public opinion and information provided by news media have helped him become a staunch non-supporter of the bill. He said he would prefer waiting until after mid-term elections to enact reforms. He did not say nothing should be done. He simply feels that a topic as important as healthcare should not be rushed through the Senate or House of Representatives.

“People are not buying these concepts that are completely foreign to America,” Inhofe said. “We’re almost reaching a revolution in this country.”

Many in the meeting agreed and were vocal about their disdain for the current climate in Washington.

No more compromise,” Chickasha resident Ed Hicks said. “We’re losing our country.”

No We Didn’t, Yes We Did

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

The Obama administration has apparently pulled the plug on the attempt to intimidate critics of it’s ill advised and immensely unpopular MEDICUS MAXIMUS/ABORTION INDUSTRY BAILOUT BILL.

After denying that they sent the emails, now they admit that they did send them, sort of….(sigh) The 2010 mid terms can’t come fast enough.

The groundswell of critical public opinion was so strong that it forced an arrogant White House to drop it’s attempt at compiling an enemies list that would have led to the Constitutionally protected right to dissent enduring a direct challlenge by the executive branch of government.

These folks have forgotten their role in Washington. They are “at will” employees of the American people and we can fire them anytime we please. You don’t monitor the bosses’ emails at work and you darn sure don’t monitor the voter’s emails either.

Even though these past 7 months have been nerve wracking at times, wondering whether or not the sleeping giant of the electorate would wake up in time to stop this naked power grab, thank goodess we did finally take decisive action.

I was proud of the American people as I watched them take a stand for the rights that our fore fathers paid such a steep price for. Grabbing the mic at these Town Hall meetings and letting their elected representatives know that they weren’t going to be bulldozed into accepting a health care plan that they didn’t want, didn’t need and couldn’t pay for.

Hopefully, we have learned a very important lesson: that democracy is always only one generation away from being lost.

So Much News, So Little Time

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

As I click on to my favorite political sites and read my email alerts, I am amazed at the amount of news that is coming at us, wave after wave of news.

The latest that I am aware of, is that Obama now wants “comprehensive” immigration reform. I have been conditioned, just like Pavlov’s famous dog, not to salivate when the dinner bell is rung, but to place my hand securely over my wallet whenever either McCain or Obama use the word “comprehensive.”

I have learned that this word means that something else is coming down the pike that won’t be good for me and my family or for you and your family.

Obama is probably going to be defeated on Cap & Trade and the Health Care/Abortion Industry Bailout bill, but not to worry. The Dems feel that this is the perfect time to launch yet another unpopular proposal that the majority of Americans will also hate, just as they have hated Obama’s other big proposals.

The level of incompetence and outright arrogance of this administration is something to behold. They lurch from one failure to the next failure, trying to sell us something we: 1. Don’t want
2. Don’t need 3. Can’t afford……..If that is not the pre-condition for the classic “no sale,” then I don’t know what is.

Switching to another subject: Town Hall meetings. OMG, can you believe how out of touch these hacks have gotten? They are either brain dead or they have spent waaaaayyyy too much time inside the Beltway. Now that they have returned to their districts, they are facing a hurricane of anger and ridicule from their constituents.

The amazing thing to me is that they are so unrepentant. They are mocking you and me as “thugs” and “bullies” who are using tactics of “intimidation” to disrupt what would otherwise be polite and civil discussions of proposed public policy.

That’s OK. Let them think whatever they please. They will continue to defy the voters until the first Tuesday in November, 2010. They will be shocked to see a 40 ft. high political tsunami roll ashore and sweep them out of office. So, Democratic incumbents, enjoy the perks of power while you can, because change I can believe in is coming.

Here’s another story in the news. The Obama administration wants us to inform them about “fishy” blog articles that they suspect are disseminating false information on the Health Care bill and using “scare tactics” to try to bring about the defeat of Obama’s proposal.

Does this strike you as a very dangerous situation? It is absolutely none of the government’s business to monitor it’s citizens lawful discourse. As long as there is no illegal activity being promoted, it is our Constitutionally protected right to dissent. This is a very troubling attitude within this administration and it speaks volumes about these people’s philosophy of governance.

The last thing I wanted to touch on is my son’s graduation from the Marine’s Officer Candidate School at Quantico, VA.

With everying going on around us, we sometimes can be tempted to become very cynical about the country, that maybe everything we believe in and have fought for is being lost. Don’t believe it. When this country can produce 1,500 young ladies and gentlemen who have molded their bodies and minds to an extent that most of us can only dream about, then we have to know that help is on the way.

The level of committment and dedication is truly inspiring. Young men and women from some of the finest universities in America went through a grueling 10 week test of fitness and character….and they passed with flying colors.

So, hats off to the Marine Corps and it’s newly graduated class #201 and to Pat Cronin and his new buddies in the Corps.

Best wishes to the Grads and Semper Fi!
