AP NEWS

WASHINGTON (AP) – Despite suffering near-historic election losses this month, House Democrats appear ready to keep their leadership team intact, with Nancy Pelosi of California still on top.

Both parties will hold closed-door House leadership elections Wednesday. But the main focus will involve the soon-to-be minority party, the Democrats.

Pelosi, the nation’s first female speaker, appeared to soothe enough angry colleagues Tuesday to ensure her election to the top post. Barring a surprise, she will become minority leader in January, when the new Congress convenes. The second- and third-ranking Democrats seem likely to hold their positions as well.

THE AMERICAN THINKER
By: Monty Pelerin

An interview with a Democratic Washington insider described as “a longtime Washington D.C. insider, and former advisor to the Obama election campaign and transition team …” describes the “administration in crisis, and a president increasingly withdrawn from the job of President.”

Whomever the Democrat insider might be, his comments are consistent with what many of us sense. He does not believe another four years would be in the best interests of America, or perhaps more accurately, the Democratic Party. When confronted, here is the question and his answer:

Q: But would another four years of an Obama presidency be the best thing for America?

A: (Long pause) Now that is a much more interesting question right there, and a question I think more and more Democratic Party insiders are asking themselves these days, myself included. I am going to come right out and say it – No. Obama is not up to the job of being president. He simply doesn’t seem to care about the work involved. You want to know what? Obama is lazy. He really is. And it is getting worse and worse. Would another four years of Obama be the best thing for America? No it would not.

What this country needs is a president who is focused on the job more than on themselves. Obama is not that individual. I actually hope he doesn’t run again. Looking back, as much fun as the campaign in 2008 was, Hillary Clinton should have been the nominee. Hillary was ready to be president. Obama was not ready. He had never lost a campaign. Everything was handed to him. He doesn’t really understand the idea of work – real, hard, get your heart and soul into it work. And frankly, that is very disappointing to a whole lot of us…

Even from a Democratic perspective, Obama is seen as an immature man-child. Despite the swooning press, he is not considered overly bright by those that know him.

They’re little more than parasites. They live off the host — productive citizens. Few pols have principles beyond staying in office, regardless of the cost. For Democrats, Obama was a meal-ticket. His philosophy of government may have been extreme for some, but he was useful. He was “The One” that could lead the party back to their rightful leadership, control of the country and glory.

This charismatic charlatan charmed the country as well as his Party. The political parasites glommed onto him like flies on horse manure. He was their savior. The One would return the party to greatness.

Buoyed by early success, Democratic politicians jumped aboard what they believed to be a program sold by a phenomenal politician who possessed magical powers. This winner could sell anything to the rubes in the body politic. Unfortunately Obama’s vision, buttressed by extremists in the party like Pelosi and Reid, was pushed too far. It was too radical for the American people.

Like hypnotized lemmings, the party members followed this Pied Piper. Their arrival at the cliff and mass demise is estimated to occur on November 2.

The next two years will be hard on Obama. As much as he is hated by freedom-lovers in the country, it is likely that he will be hated more by his remaining Democrats. This Pied Piper, instead of getting the American people to follow, led Democratic politicians to their political death. The survivors will not forget, nor will they continue to march to the tune of this false savior.

We are about to witness politics at its ugliest. It will be Republicans against Democrats of course. But that will be less intriguing than the Democrats against Obama. Political survival trumps loyalty. If Obama is as ineffectual as I believe he will be, he will be devoured by angry Democrats anxious to avenge the political deaths of their comrades.

What Democrats, besides Hillary, will challenge him in 2012? Will he even stand for re-election?

For political junkies the fun is about to begin.

By Michael O’Brien THE HILL

A House Democratic lawmaker said late last week that he’d heard Nancy Pelosi wouldn’t seek another term as Speaker.

Rep. Mike McIntyre (D-N.C.) said that not only would he not back Pelosi (D-Calif.) for Speaker again, but also that he’d heard she would not seek another term in that position.

“From what we’re hearing, she’s probably not going to run for Speaker again,” McIntyre told WWAY-TV in North Carolina. “And if she does, I’m confident she’s going to have opposition, and I look forward to supporting that opposition.”

…………But Pelosi has also generally declined to say whether or not she’d run again for Speaker. It’s often been customary for Speakers to step aside and perhaps resign if they lead their party to major losses in elections. Pelosi has shown, though, every intention of running again.

I can’t wait to hear Madame Speaker’s first interview after the 40 foot political tsunami rolls ashore Nov. 2 and sweeps her and the Democratic Party three miles inland.

I wonder how she will try to spin her responses in the interview reposted below. I wonder how she will handle going from one of the most powerful women in the world to Congressional back bencher.

Only time will tell.

~~John Cronin~~

SAN FRANCISCO — While polls were showing her to be among the country’s most disliked politicians, Democrats were ducking her on the campaign trail and the Republican Party chairman was riding around in a “Fire Pelosi!” bus, the speaker of the House was checking out mattresses.

“Wow, this is great,” said a sleep-deprived Nancy Pelosi as she stroked a plush specimen during a tour of the McRoskey Mattress Company here on Wednesday. While few politicians ever look comfortable on factory floors, Ms. Pelosi, the California Democrat, seemed particularly ill-suited, her big shiny pearls clashing with the goofy safety goggles she was required to wear.

On the brink of an election that could end Ms. Pelosi’s four-year run as speaker, her recent doings underscore an enduring truth: This most vilified of politicians is also one of the most resolute.

In recent months, the 70-year-old speaker’s days have been packed with private fund-raising events across the country for many of the Democrats who have been publicly avoiding her like bedbugs. (Since the beginning of 2009, she has raised $52.3 million for Democratic incumbents, candidates and the party’s Congressional campaign committee, second only to President Obama among Democrats.)

She has jackhammered her party’s “Take America Forward” message while campaigning in her district and for candidates across the country. And she has batted away a daily barrage of “What if” questions from friends, nervous incumbents and reporters — as in “What if Democrats lose their majority?” (Would she run for minority leader? Would she quit Congress?)

Efforts to engage Ms. Pelosi on such questions are futile.

“We’re not losing,” she said in a brief interview after the mattress company tour. Through a tight grin, she dismissed an inquiry — whether she would stay in Congress if Democrats lost — as “so D.C., like an insider thing,” and she accused the news media of predetermining the election results.

“They’re saying, ‘This is how we see it, so this is how it will be, so prove to us it isn’t,’ ” she complained.

It is hard to find anyone who claims to have heard Ms. Pelosi entertain doubts about winning. “She believes deep in her soul that the Democrats will keep the majority,” said Larry Horowitz, a friend and adviser.

Whether that is denial, superstition, insight or spin is a subject of some debate. Ms. Pelosi is fully aware that the bad economy, the electoral map and historical trends favor Republicans, said Roz Wyman, a longtime Democratic activist in Los Angeles.
