Netanyahu’s Oval Office Remarks to Obama

The following clip is courtesy of C-SPAN.ORG. I have adjusted the start time to about the 7 minute mark to purposely omit most of Obama’s remarks which are so naive as to be useless, except to demonstrate how totally out of his depth this man is.

That being said, it was a pleasure to listen to Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, talk sense about his country’s need for defensible borders and the need to reject the so-called “right of return” for the grandchildren and great grandchildren of the Arabs displaced by the 1948 War of Independence. In case some of our younger readers think the year 1948 is a mistake, it’s not. That’s how long this protracted struggle has been going on…63 years and counting.

WASHINGTON (AFP) – Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu has warned Barack Obama against chasing what he called a Middle East peace “based on illusions” as he lectured the US president amid a widening rift in US-Israeli ties.

In a dramatic Oval Office appearance, after 90 minutes of talks Friday, Prime Minister Netanyahu emphatically vowed Israel would never return to its 1967 borders and laid down a set of non-negotiable conditions for peace talks.

The exchange, which left hopes for Obama’s peace drive more remote than ever, came a day after the US president called on Israel to accept a return to territorial lines in place before the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, with mutual land swaps with Palestinians to frame a secure peace.

But Netanyahu seized on the notion that he was being asked to return solely to Israel’s 1967 footprint, which he said was nine miles wide in places and half the size of the “Beltway” highway surrounding Washington.

“While Israel is prepared to make generous compromises for peace, it cannot go back to the 1967 lines — because these lines are indefensible,” Netanyahu said, looking Obama squarely in the eye.

PM Netanyahu to Obama: No Effing Way, Pal

OK, the Israeli Prime Minister didn’t use the F-Bomb with Obama (at least not as far as I would know.) But I bet you he was thinking it when our distinguished Community-Organizer-in-Chief laid out his wholly predictable plan to shrink Israel to pre-1967 borders.

As Israel’s former U.N. Ambassador, Dore Gold, said recently, this makes Israel 8 miles wide at it’s narrowest point and militarily “indefensible.”

But, of course, that’s the point. As we know Hezbollah and Hamas are literally not “rocket scientists” and have trouble hitting anything with the crude, home made rockets they shower down on Israel, so if they only have to fire them at virtually point blank range, this is much more convenient for them.

Benjamin Netanyahu has the requisite good sense to dismiss this nonsense out of hand and I can only guess that Obama knew that before he offered the “two state solution” to the Israeli/Palestinian problem.

I think it is safe to assume that Obama is playing to his Leftie base with this spurious “peace plan,” knowing full well that it doesn’t have the proverbial snowball in a hot place’s chance of being implemented. We can expect his proposals to get wilder and more dangerous to the American middle class for the balance of this year, as Obama fills his campaign coffers and those of the DNC with money donated by those on the Left who would like to see Israel go away. Then, about a year out from the 2012 election, watch Obama move swiftly to the right in what I hope is an unsuccessful attempt to stay in the Mansion at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. for another 4 years.

Obama ‘disrespected’ Israel, threw it ‘under the bus,’ says Romney

President Obama”disrespected” Israel and threw it “under the bus” in a wide-ranging speech on the Middle East on Thursday, GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney charged.

Romney strongly criticized Obama, who, in a speech at the State Department, called for Israel to return to its border lines as drawn before the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.

“President Obama has thrown Israel under the bus. He has disrespected Israel and undermined its ability to negotiate peace,” Romney said in a statement.

“He has also violated a first principle of American foreign policy, which is to stand firm by our friends,” added the former Massachusetts governor.

Romney led Republicans in criticizing the Obama speech, which touched on broader themes throughout the Middle East, including the popular movements for democratization, from Egypt to Yemen, during the first half of the year.

“President Obama has betrayed Israel and made a grievous mistake by suggesting borders of Israel go back to pre-1967 borders. This is an outrage to peace, sovereignty of Israel, and a stable Middle East,” former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R), a 2008 Republican presidential candidate who’s been a staunch supporter of Israel, said in a statement.
