Mitt Romney returned to normal life Monday, rejoining the board of directors of hotel chain Marriott International Inc. (NYSE:MAR) from where he resigned prior to making his presidential bid.
Marriott announced Romney’s return on Monday, the same day he began his board term.
The former governor of Massachusetts twice served on the board. He served from 1993 to 2002, then left for his successful governor bid, and again from January 2009 to January 2011, resigning to start his presidential campaign.
“It is an honor to once again be able to serve in the company of leaders like Bill Marriott and Arne Sorenson and to support the work of the tens of thousands of Marriott associates who make Marriott International the renowned success that it is,” Romney said in a press release.
Marriott’s president and CEO Arne Sorenson called Romney “an astute, independent director.”
“We are fortunate to have him back on our board,” Sorenson said.
Romney has largely moved away from the spotlight since his election loss on Nov. 6. He was recently spotted in La Jolla, Calif., filling his gas tank.
Romney also met with President Barack Obama last Thursday in Washington. The White House said the two talked about the U.S.’s leadership and promised to keep in touch and possibly work together if opportunities of shared interest arise.
