More troubling for Democrat watchers is Carnahan’s big spending. The FEC reports show Carnahan spent quite a bit more than he actually brought in. He only raised $9,375 yet he spent $12,432. A portion of his expenses went to relocating even more staff to help with his campaign. Carnahan now employs two Capitol Hill politicos as his top staffers Angela Barranco from Whip Crowley’s office and Angela Guyadeen from Marion Berry’s office, not to mention another staffer brought in from Louisiana.
Meanwhile Ed Martin continues to show steady growth and common sense spending as he quickly closes in on Carnahan regarding his campaign’s cash on hand. Ed Martin raised $18,207 yet only spent $6,805.
“Even in fundraising Congressman Carnahan serves as a prime example of the wasteful spending that is currently so rampant in Washington. The people of Missouri’s 3rd district don’t want someone who would throw away money on hiring Washington-insiders to help them do their bidding. They want a representative who uses common sense when it comes to money – someone who will take spending seriously. Carnahan’s spending is on track with the deficit problems plaguing our country and mortgaging our children’s future,’ said congressional candidate Ed Martin.
Ed Martin’s fundraising speaks volumes as to what the people want. In these last days before the primary, candidates are required to report contributions over $1,000 within 48 hours. Ed Martin just received two of these from Missourians who are worried about the future. Carnahan has reported none.
Tea Party favorite Sharron Angle may be surging in the polls at just the right time as she battles other Republicans for the chance to slug it out with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid – seen by some as the most vulnerable incumbent in Congress.
Angle, a staunch conservative Republican state assemblywoman, is now leading two polls this week ahead of Tuesday’s primary, powered in two short months by the support of Tea Party activists.
Reid has one of the worst personal approval ratings in all of Congress, which also has record low disapproval ratings.
But the race remains unpredictable in a state where unemployment is 13.7 percent.
A Suffolk University poll gives Angle 33 percent of the vote in the GOP primary, over businessman Danny Tarkanian at 26 percent and former state party chairwoman Sue Lowden at 25 percent.
1st ANNUAL REPORT: We look back at the first year of Solid Principles, revisiting some of our previous podcasts, with co-founders John Cronin and Craig Edwards.
Citizen McGlowan: Political Author and Fox News Contributor Angela McGlowan is one of three Republican Candidates in the 1st Congressional District of Mississippi. During this interview, McGlowan speaks for the first time about receiving death threats, being urged by the Republican machine to withdraw her candidacy, as well as being the target of political dirty tricks. McGlowan also discusses her candidacy, the upcoming GOP Primary, and the political environment heading into the 2010 Mid-Terms.
The political website Solid Principles scored an interview with the ever-quotable Angela McGlowan, where she dropped even more bombshells. In the 8 minute interview, she alleged . . .
1. That she has received threats to her office including death threats
2 That she was told by elected officials in DC not to run
3. A doctored photo of her is being circulated
4. That there is a concerted effort to make the effort against her racially motivated
5. She came very close to ending her campaign, but changed her mind
Given the level of outrageous comments to come out of the McGlowan camp so far in this campaign, it’s a bit like the “boy who cried wolf”. It’s hard to know what to take seriously. I hope this some of this is just puffery or exaguration. If it’s not, McGlowan should report the threats to the FBI
Solid Principles just completed an interview with Candidate for 1st Congressional Seat of Mississippi / Fox News Contributor Angela McGlowan.
Upon asking her reaction to the Daily News report, she reported her campaign office had received death threats against her and campaign workers. McGlowan also alleged a race based smear campaign against her, and the circulation of an derogatory image of McGlowan.
The complete interview with Angela McGlowan will appear on an upcoming Solid Principles Podcast.
This YouTube video features audio from the Solid Principles Podcast interview with Arizona U.S Senate Candidate J.D Hayworth, on the topic of Illegal Immigration. Given the recent debate over Illegal Immigration, it’s important to consider J.D Hayworth’s comments were made prior to the passage of the Arizona Immigration Law SB1070. Hear the complete J.D Hayworth interview on Solid Principles Podcast – Episode 27 – “The Maverick Stops Here”.
Yoopers Strike Back:When ‘Blue Dog’ Democrat Bart Stupak became the pivotal vote for Obamacare, it set into motion considerable opposition within his home district. Overnight, his Republican opponent and newcomer Dan Benishek received overwhelming support thrusting his congressional challenge into the national news cycle. As part of our 2010 contenders series on Solid Principles, we feature an interview with Dan Benishek on his candidacy for the 1st Congressional District of Michigan.
Little has changed over the past month in Missouri’s U.S. Senate race, with Republican Roy Blunt maintaining his modest lead over Democrat Robin Carnahan.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters in the state shows Blunt earning 48% support to Carnahan’s 42%. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate, and seven percent (7%) are undecided.
I had the opportunity to speak with Hector Maldonado at a meeting of Republican Party activists at the Grand Opening & Open House of the MOGOP (Missouri GOP) Victory 2010 Head Quarters in suburban St. Louis Co. The offices were packed with party loyalists and many “newbies” who haven’t been active in politics in the past, but that was then and this is now.
There was a strong current evident in the crowd and the speakers that the 2010 midterm is the most important election of our lives. We all felt that we have one more chance to stop the destruction of our freedoms and our economy before the Alinsyites temporally in charge in Washington get two more years of unbridled power to effect the dismantling of America.
The offices were packed and the energy and excitement level were as high as I’ve ever experienced. Several big political hitters were there, including Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, who is criss-crossing Missouri in his efforts to support Party candidates state wide. Just as a teaser, I have some important news on something Mr. Kinder has planned for later this month, but you’ll have to listen to an upcoming edition of the SOLID PRINCIPLES PODCAST to find out what he has on his agenda.
But getting back to my conversation with Hector Maldonado. Hector is a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves and he was among the First Responders to arrive at Ground Zero on 911. His account was very moving and, hopefully, we can arrange for him to tell you more about his experiences that day on a future podcast.
Hector is running for the U.S. Senate seat that has opened up as a result of Sen. Christopher “Kit” Bond’s retirement and he is as conservative as they come. While SOLID PRINCIPLES does not endorse primary candidates, we do feel it is our role to bring promising candidates to the voter’s attention so that you can make an informed decision.
We need leaders that are in touch with real people and take time to listen to the real issues that affect us the most. We need leaders that know the impacts and hardships of the average American tax payer.
We need leaders that not only know the history of our founding but that believe in our Founders’ Declaration of Independence. We need Leaders that not only know the U.S. Constitution, but that rule by this majestic document. We need Leaders that truly will support and defend the Constitution of The United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
We need defenders of Liberty and Freedom. Leaders who are ready to Guard and Defend it at any cost. Why do we need such Leaders?
“Because Washington needs Leaders that love LIBERTY and FREEDOM, not Power.”
We just spoke to Republican candidate in the 1st Congressional district of Michigan Dan Benishek about the sudden resignation by Rep. Bart Stupak in not seeking re-election in the 2010 Mid-Terms.
Let Me Be Blunt:With the resignation of U.S Senator Kit Bond for the state of Missouri, his seat now becomes an open race this November. Current candidates include Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan for the Democrats, and Republican Congressman Roy Blunt currently representing Missouri’s 7th congressional district. As part of our 2010 contenders series on Solid Principles, we feature an interview with the Congressman Roy Blunt on his attempt cross over into the US Senate.
Spratt & Mulvaney: 5th Congressional District of South Carolina Candiates
According to Politico, Rep. John Spratt (the current incumbent for the 5th Congressional District of South Carolina), has filed paperwork for his effort at gaining a 15th term. His Republican challenger, is current South Carolina State Senator Mick Mulvaney. From an observers point of view, this is going to be one of the more interesting congressional races to watch.
As part of ‘The 2010 Contenders Series’, Solid Principles spoke to Mick Mulvaney on his candidacy and efforts in challenging so called ‘Blue Dog’ Democrat Spratt. I am certain after hearing this Podcast, you too will know Mulvaney is the fitting to end to Spratt’s 14th term.
The Maverick Stops Here: Former Arizona Congressman and Talk Radio host, J.D Hayworth, has taken on the role of challenging John McCain for the Republican Party nomination for the Arizona U.S Senate seat held by McCain. As Hayworth closes the gap against McCain, the incumbent ‘Maverick’ has responded by spending over a million dollars in radio spots targeting Hayworth. As part of the 2010 Contenders Series, Solid Principles spoke to J.D Hayworth on his challenge seeking the U.S Senate seat.
The Pursuit of Rubber Stamp Russ: When appearing at a fund raiser for Rep. Russ Carnahan of Missouri, House Speaker Pelosi classified Carnahan as ‘Not a High Maintenance Type’. This gave Republican Congressional candidate Ed Martin the idea to now refer to Carnahan as, ‘Rubber Stamp Russ‘. As part of the 2010 Contenders Series, Solid Principles spoke to Ed Martin on his challenge for the 3rd Congressional District of Missouri, and matters relating to the 2010 Mid-Terms.
Chuck Heath, the father of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, is endorsing Republican Danny Tarkanian’s bid for the Senate in Nevada, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
Heath has cut radio ads for Tarkanian, telling voters: “You supported my daughter Sarah Palin, now please join me in supporting another strong conservative: Danny Tarkanian.” A real estate developer, Tarkanian is running in a GOP primary for the right to take on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
